What Goes Around, Comes Around

October 14th, 2007

The Reverend Dr. Charles D. Yoost delivers a sermon titled “What Goes Around, Comes Around” with a reading from Luke16: 19-31. To many it seems the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. In this sermon Dr. Yoost reflects on a saying from his youth, “What goes around , comes around”. Will we embrace the reality of that saying in spite of all the earthly evidence to the contrary? Will we join with God in turning the world upside down, so that all may experience life, the life that really is life. The life God intends us to live. The life that God wants us to share. With Jesus the tables are turned, the poor are rich and the rich are poor.

Whatever It Takes

September 30th, 2007

The Reverend Dr. Charles D. Yoost delivers a sermon titled “Whatever It Takes” with a reading from Luke 16:1-13. In this sermon Dr. Yoost asks, have you ever broken the rules because it’s the right thing to do? We need a sense of abandonment in order to accept God’s call, to follow wherever Jesus leads, to love without calculating the nature of the sacrifice. We are called to do whatever it takes, and in the process to give ourselves away. Are we willing to do whatever it takes to keep our eyes on Jesus, and to focus on the “true riches” of this life? Are we willing to do whatever God asks, to step out on a limb in faith?
